OVERVIEW
The Bill Pickett Memorial Scholarship Fund’s purpose, strategic direction, and name were changed in April 2022, to reflect the broader community involvement of the foundation. As a result, the foundation's name was changed to the Bill Pickett Invitational Rodeo Foundation (BPIRF).
For over 30 years, the BPIRF has upheld its commitment to rodeo, education, and legacy by creating new initiatives across the country: regional scholarships, community wellness & health programs, Rodeo for Kidz Sake, Anti-Violence Ventures, Saddle Up with BPIRF, and other programs to uplift our youth and communities.
BUILDING A LEGACY
Black Cowboys and Cowgirls are embedded in the fabric and rich history of the Wild West and American West. In fact, some historians estimate that one in four cowboys were black.
The mysticism and fascination with the Black Cowboy/Cowgirl attract audiences across this nation in small and large communities. By telling the story of the rich history of the Black Cowboy/Cowgirl, the Bill Pickett Invitational Rodeo and BPIRF maintain legacies and accomplishments, both vibrant and present, by educating and inspiring current and future generations.
Our mission, vision, and value statements clarify our aspirations and inspirations in supporting diverse communities. The statements are as follows:
