Overview

For 30+ years the Bill Pickett Invitational Rodeo Foundation (BPIRF) has upheld its commitment to the rodeo, education, and the arts by providing unique programs across the country.

In April 2022, we expanded the scope, purpose, strategic direction, and name of our charitable organization to the Bill Pickett Invitational Rodeo Foundation (BPIRF).

Building on Legacy:

The Black Cowboys and Black Cowgirls are embedded in the fabric and rich history of the Wild West and American West.  In fact, some “historians estimate that one in four cowboys were black.”

“Right after the Civil War, being a cowboy was one of the few jobs open to men of color who wanted not to serve as elevator operators, porters, or similar occupations.

The mystic and fascination with the Black Cowboy and Black Cowgirl draw audience across this nation in big and small areas.

By telling story of the rich history of the Black Cowboy and Black Cowgirl, the Bill Pickett Invitational Rodeo keeps:

  • Legacies and accomplishments of the Black Rodeo, Black Cowboy, and Black Cowgirl vibrant and present:
    • Educating and inspiring a current and upcoming generations.
